The book was comprehensive and well written, but it could have been better organized.

Plain and simple…the best Universe book out there, no need to look anywhere else. I own it and would want anything less.

I knew that lots of asteroids and moons had been discovered in the decades since I was an astronomy-obsessed grade schooler, but I had no idea there were THIS MANY! The photography, both of “local” planets and stars and of distant galaxies, is incredible as well.
I’m skeptical about the timeline regarding the Big Bang, but it’s just as much of a theory as any other speculation about the beginning of the universe.
Young children would appreciate the pictures; older children and adults would enjoy the easy-to-read text as well.
I got it from the library but am tempted to purchase it – and not just in the event that my nieces will someday be interested in what lies beyond.

Universe gives you a fundamental knowledge on the subject of astronomy, this book gives you more than just a repedative walkthrough about the inner and the outer heavenly bodies. This book goes all the way, by making the vast astronomical sciences accesible for everyone intersested on the subject.
Universe by smithsonian istitution is a must by for everyone even vaguely interested in the stars.

This book is a brilliantly designed compendium of information about the universe. It is a wonderfully put together reference complete with tons of beautiful photographs, illustrations, charts and graphics for astromomers at any level. The “Universe” presents the universe in an incredibly enlightening and very easy to understand context detailed for any level of learning. It is a must have book especially if it is to be the only book you own on astronomy.
